FutureCity is a look at the future of living – and the post-pandemic possibilities
The way we learn, work – and live – might never be the same.
There’s no denying that the world has undergone radical changes due to the global pandemic of the Covid-19 coronavirus. Everything from work to play has been upended – and people all around the world are discovering new ways to adapt their everyday lives to the new normal. Just how should we navigate our new reality – and where do we go from here, now that everything has changed?
‘FutureCity’, Loftwork’s brand new global initiative, explores life in and after the time of corona – and the new possibilities we must traverse. Join us in looking at the challenges and innovations in education, remote work, smart living and more, as well as the ways in which we can overhaul flawed systems of yesteryear.
One part digital forum and one part creative movement, FutureCity events will be held online over the next few months, in both Japanese and English.

Hear from a diverse lineup of speakers in a series of online talks
Industry experts, creators and movers and shakers from around the world will lead discussions on a wide range of topics – including education, the first in the FutureCity series.
Join us in rethinking education via the online FabMeetup talk, ‘Immersive Distance Learning with XR (VR/AR/MR)’. Reflecting on online learning under the current conditions, we’ll explore the potential of XR (Extended Reality) with Numena co-founder Andreea Ion Cojocaru and creative technologist and Parsons educator Kyle Li. These experts will give us crucial insight into the workings of virtual spatial experiences, as well as the universe of building creative curriculums. Moderated by Loftwork Hong Kong co-founder and educator Harvey Chung, we’ll find out if physical learning can ever be fully replaced by online learning.

Learning through play: calling on creators to submit their game design ideas
The more we stay in, the more we should think out – of the box. As part of FutureCity’s spotlight on education, we’re inviting creators to celebrate game-based learning through an ‘offline’ game design challenge. Innovative Game Design Challenge invites participants to submit their ‘offline’ games ideas, be it a new card game or experimental building blocks. The winner will be featured across Loftwork and FabCafe networks, getting the chance to exhibit at selected FabCafe locations, as well as the potential for manufacturing. Winners will receive monetary prizes of up to US$1000 and be featured across Loftwork and FabCafe networks, getting the chance to exhibit at selected FabCafe locations, as well as the potential for manufacturing. Loftwork creative director Hangna Koh, along with creator of Digital Bricks Thibaut Evrard, will launch the challenge through a Facebook Live opening talk. Follow us on FabCafe Global Facebook Page for date/time for the opening talk!
Can you gamify the way we will learn? See more details about the challenge on AWRD.
